Who's Pouring Into You?

I tend to get these random moments of enlightenment when I drive and there isn't any music playing.

Last week on my journey back into town, I avoided the highway and ventured through the country. As I cruised the winding roads, the image of a watering can came to mind, much like the one in this post. And then a thought!

We know for a watering can to be effective, it needs to be filled. Its purpose is to give and to receive. The whole process is cyclical.

I likened myself and us as humans to that watering can and realized that we often spend an unmeasurable amount of time pouring out of ourselves into others to the point of depletion and emptiness.

So much so that we have no idea how to receive the refill we need to keep going.

Sometimes we could be so focused on pouring out, because that is what we know to do, that we fail to allow others to pour INTO us. Maybe it’s a matter of us acknowledging that unhealed hurt, trauma and mistrust, all act as a lid. They stop us from receiving the very thing meant to sustain us—the thing we need but don’t realize.

I have learned that it’s essential to pour into the right people. What is equally important is that we come to a place where we can remove the things that hinder us from receiving.

Once we remove the proverbial roadblock, we will see other likeminded vessels standing on the sidelines, patiently waiting for us to heal and remove our lids, so they can pour into us and keep us replenished and full without question and hesitation.

I am challenging you; better yet, I am challenging myself to acknowledge what we have to offer and pour into those worthy of receiving. I am also challenging us to be open to receive the goodness other vessels want to pour into us—the goodness we all need and deserve.
