The Wounds Words Leave Behind

I was in contact with someone today, and she blew my mind with what she had to say. We were speaking that when one person murders another, they are sentenced to jail time (sometimes) to pay for their crime, yet we murder people every day with the words we say.

Our conversation caused me to sit and ponder, as I often do, and she was so right we have all been verbally murdered at some point in our lives by friends, family or a stranger simply by the negative words directed at us in hate, anger or frustration.

If we have been on the receiving end of that verbal murder, we can’t ignore that we have also pulled the trigger and wounded another soul by the words we have said to them.

There is a quote that floats around, and I’m not sure who penned it first, but it states that ‘hurt people, hurt people’ and although physical cuts and pain hurt and ache, and soon bruise and eventually heal, words cut deep, sometimes so deep that no one can see them because they are in the depths of our soul.

So, although we are not guilty of a criminally punishable crime, we are all guilty of wounding another soul, so let’s be mindful of the words we speak because nothing tends to hurt more or linger longer than an unkind word.
