The Beauty Of The Unexpected

This image was going to be the view from my hotel ten weeks from now. My Grenada passport would have received her first stamp. My toes would be moving gracefully across this white sand, ready to be dipped into the Caribbean Sea. My skin, glistening with a beautiful black girl tan.

On the other hand, 2020 thwarted my plans and decided to slap my vacation into oblivion disrespectfully.

And as much as I would like to be bitter, I realize that the last eight months have been a blessing in disguise. A time to slow down, face fears and heal from things I didn't know required healing.

When we are forced to operate outside of the ordinary, we are more inclined to spread our wings, to make room for the extraordinary.

I understand now that as important as forgiving and asking for forgiveness is, forgiving myself is paramount. I have found the essence of who I am, what I have to offer and what I will and will not receive into my space. I have discovered who Talisha is, and let me tell you, even though she is a work in progress, she is one dope chick!

All humbleness aside, I wonder how many of you have had the same transforming experience. Perhaps you are in the midst of it, but wherever you are, I have one question, doesn't it feel good?

It's like that breath you take when you've had your mask on for a while and finally get to take it off. And for the women reading this, it's that moment you unclasp your bra and toss it across the room after a long day. You know that glorious feeling!

I wonder how many of you are on a journey, one that you weren't prepared for but is transforming your mind and revealing things to you, you never thought possible. I wonder how many of you are shedding the old, be it a relationship, friendship, job or even mindset and have discovered things about yourself and found a level of appreciation for the reflection you see daily. I wonder how many of you fell in love, not with another person, but with yourself. Regardless of how it looks, I hope that something amazing is taking place.

When we are forced to operate outside of the ordinary, we are more inclined to spread our wings, to make room for the extraordinary. Possibly that is where the beauty of the unexpected is truly revealed.

As I write, I am unsure why I am sharing this, as mundane as it may be, but like my Instagram post said yesterday, I was waiting for something to bubble up from my heart to my head and end up in a blog. And this is it!

Before I go, I want to leave you with a simple yet profound quote that has me repeatedly tasting the words. It states: "You have to lose yourself, to find yourself."

If I learned anything to date, it's that before Covid, I was merely existing in a shell of who I thought I was, and despite still treading through the thick of this pandemic, I have found Talisha 2.0 she has a new way of living and is doing it with purpose.

(Not sure why I am speaking of myself in the third person, but it works, lol)

Until next time, Be Inspired!
