Sunshine State of Mind

When the sun is shining, life tends to look differently. Colours illuminate, and what seems unimpressive on a cloudy day possesses a certain depth and beauty when the sun shines.

The sun makes my soul bubble, and it puts a permanent smile on my face. It elevates my mood and injects me with an energy I can't seem to explain. Let's not forget taking a selfie with the rays hitting our faces just right makes everything that much better.

It's funny how a random sunny day would lead to a thought I posted close to two months ago on IG, which now led to this blog post.

As an aside, I am learning to appreciate the randomness of my thoughts and the length of time I mull over things before I share with you all because I always want to make sure what I say reflects how I feel.

"We can't truly yearn for something until we feel the effects of its absence."

When I wrote this quote, they were words that flowed, but as I pondered them, many things came to mind. First, we can't miss the sun until we feel our energy change and our mood shift from the lack of having it. We can't miss the warmth of its rays until we feel the coolness of a constant grey sky.

As much as I love the sun's effects, I need to recognize that the things I have cleaned on gloomy days do not appear as clean as when the sun is out. I can see streaks on the mirrors, a light film of dust on the hardwood, and the stainless steel has the dreaded fingerprints I thought I removed.

The sunlight manages to illuminate all the things I missed. It amplifies what's hidden in the shadows. I liken it to exposing the unhealed parts of us as it whispers that although we have come a long way, there is still some work to do.

On the other hand, when the sun casts its rays across areas, I'm sure I didn't clean properly; I am surprised there isn't any dust or residue. I consider that to be the situation we survived but never thought it possible to recover.

Yet here we are, flourishing.

I don't think we can truthfully miss the closeness of connection until we have experienced the hollowness of loneliness. It's almost like we need to experience emptiness before we can welcome fullness.

Let us develop a new appreciation for sunny days, not just for the selfies, as amazing as they are, but also for its warmth and the things it reveals. Sunny days expose where we lack and aids in the celebration of how far we have come, all because we've taken the time to remember how we feel when it's not there.

Be Inspired!
